Brother Gordon

Do you remember this sweet old man? He sure is a favorite of mine. It was so lovely to sit this weekend and enjoy General Conference, listening such good talks by inspired men and women of this church. But it makes me miss people like President Hinckley, my prophet growing up.

I was just reading through some material for my Parenting and Child Guidance class, and in a section about spanking (oh, yes...spanking - that hot debate that's been going on for years!), there was a quote from that awesome man that I just love and want to remember (which principle I'll just add to my My Kind Of Man list).

"I have tremendous respect for fathers and mothers who are nurturing their children in light and truth... who spare the rod and govern with love, who look upon their little ones as their most valued assets to be protected, trained, and blessed."

He also liked to say that his father never laid a hand on him except to bless him, and he intended to follow suit.

Amen, brother!
