BYU - a new chapter.
I'm here! I'm at BYU! I'm at BYU and I live in the same apartment complex as my brother, which means that I am a three minute walk down my stairs, down the parking lot, all the way up his stairs to his door. That also means that we are in the same ward for the first time in years. Oh, my ward! I cannot even begin to say how much I adore it already. My bishop is possibly the most caring individual, along with his wife. I've spoken to him on a number of occasions already (it's been an eventful week) and I know he would do anything, seriously ANYTHING, for anybody in the ward. He is the man. Period.
Okay, so here's the deal. I remember five years ago sitting on the couch in my living room, talking to Ryan on the phone... He was living in Helaman Halls having a blast of a freshman year. That one conversation did it. He told me how awesome it was and that I /needed/ to come. And since then, well, I know that I've needed to come. Five years later.... I'm here. I can hardly believe it. Though I miss my family hugely, I'm not homesick. I feel so great just being out here and taking care of myself. I have four dance classes that I attend. I am hardly noticed in any of them, but I adore it all. I have great teachers, and I am learning so much. As for my humanities class, well... I'm stoked. My professor is so passionate and quirky. She shares stories and her love with us, and I cannot help being moved by the things she says and the paintings that we are studying now. I am loving this all. Oh, man! And my contemporary dance teacher is most likely the most wonderful, organically beautiful, gracious woman in the world. Add her to my list of people I want to try to be like. If you knew her, you would, too.
Today I was walking to my last dance class (social 280), and I got totally emotional because of how grateful I am to be here. I had to call my mom and leave a message just to say 'thank you!'. She has done so much for me over the past 18+ years, and has loved me so tremendously, and has been such a support. I couldn't be here without her. Period.
Can I also say that I have wonderful roommates? Leslie is an incredible artist with a big, wonderful laugh. Christa is hilarious and full of love, and she's getting married to the man of her dreams in less than two months. Christina and I walk to dance together every morning and I just love getting to know her. She dances beautifully and has a great solo on our team; you should see her perform! It's deep. I just happened to hit the jackpot when it comes to roommates.
I dance, dance, dance, and hike, hike, hike all the hundreds of stairs on campus. I eat enough to keep me satisfied, and I soak up the sun and try to appreciate every moment. I have laid under the stars for hours conversing with an incredible new friend, and went to dance at seven without a wink of sleep. I've not enjoyed somebody's company more for a long time. It's just a wonderful place, and I am loving every minute.
I've had my up's and down's over the years, and more will come, but really... it truly is a wonderful life. I could not be more blessed.
So, whoever you are, I hope you are happy, I hope you love life, and I hope you smile every day. As my dear cousin says to me regularly: have joy!
Bon nuit!
